New Amphitheater Open

Good morning Birmingham!
It feels like we might not ever escape the rain these days. I remember last summer when it was so dry and all my plants were struggling. And now they double in size every week and will soon take over my entire yard if it doesn’t let up.
I hope you all had a great Father’s Day weekend and can find some fun things to look forward to this weekend!

In today’s Scoop:
Juneteenth Celebrations
First Show at Coca Cola Amphitheater
Birmingham Restaurant Week

🫔 El Royale Cafe
El Royale Cafe brings a cinematic Tex-Mex experience to Birmingham's historic Lakeview District. Located at 2912 6th Ave S in a transformed greenhouse space, this atmospheric restaurant offers classic comfort-led Tex-Mex dishes alongside standouts like Gulf shrimp cocktail and an elevated cheeseburger. The moody, European-inspired setting features vibrant red booths, French wicker chairs, and a European-inspired garden courtyard with a custom stone fountain. Created by celebrated photographer Miller Mobley (of Slim's Pizzeria fame) and his creative development firm Mobley and Partners, El Royale Cafe is described as an "ode to the time-worn, classic Mexican restaurants that dot California and Texas," complete with a timeless cocktail program featuring frozen margaritas and sangrias. The restaurant offers complimentary valet service and operates as a cashless establishment with reservations recommended for the dining room. Make a reservation here!

Birmingham is about to get a whole lot sweatier (and arguably more fun) with the launch of a monthly Community Wellness Happy Hour at TrimTab Brewing, hosted by SWTHZ. Starting July 31st and happening every last Thursday of the month, this genius concept kicks off with a 45-minute workout led by local fitness studios like Ignite Cycle, True40, and Gauntlet Fitness. Then comes the kind of recovery session that'll make you question everything you thought you knew about post-workout routines—cold plunge therapy followed by craft beer specials. It's basically the perfect excuse to work out hard, shock your system with ice-cold water, then immediately reward yourself with a cold brew while bonding with fellow fitness enthusiasts who clearly have their priorities straight.

🥖 Time's Ticking, Foodies!

Birmingham Restaurant Week kicked off two days ago and you're already behind on your culinary homework – this ends June 26th, so you've got exactly one week left to eat your way through the city like the dedicated food critic you pretend to be on Instagram. This 10-day foodie festival features prix-fixe menus ranging from $5 to $50 per person at dozens of locally-owned restaurants, food trucks, and bars across Birmingham, basically giving you the perfect excuse to abandon your diet and call it "supporting local business." With everything from preview parties to food truck pop-ups, this is your chance to discover that hidden gem you'll brag about finding first, or finally try that place you've been "meaning to check out" for three years. Stop scrolling, start eating – your stomach and Birmingham's culinary scene are both waiting.
🌊 Birmingham Tackling Highland Park Flooding
Birmingham has begun a $5.9 million drainage improvement project to tackle historic flooding issues in the Highland Park neighborhood along 26th Street South and Caldwell Park. The construction, funded through city budget and federal ARPA funds, will continue until summer 2026 as crews work in phases to alleviate flooding problems that have long plagued the area.
🏙️ Can’t legally drink, but can run for Mayor???
Brandon Moss, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate, has launched a campaign to become mayor of Fairfield, Alabama, making him the youngest mayoral candidate in the city's history. Just two weeks after receiving his diploma, Moss announced his candidacy for the city of about 9,500 people southwest of Birmingham, saying he wants to bring a "new vision and fresh perspective" to address issues like business development, city finances, and housing blight while preparing to balance college classes at UAB with potential mayoral duties.
