Just Re-Opened
🍻 Carrigan’s Public House
After an 11-year run at its beloved Morris Avenue location, Carrigan's Public House has officially burst onto the scene with a stunning reopening on October 28, 2025, at The William—a gorgeous historic five-story building at 1911-1913 3rd Avenue North that's transforming downtown Birmingham's dining landscape! Founded by local developer David Carrigan, this isn't just a relocation—it's a complete evolution, featuring Birmingham's first-ever downtown alley bar entrance that promises to be the coolest hidden gem in the city.
The new space is absolutely jaw-dropping, showcasing a one-of-a-kind handmade marble bartop that Carrigan himself crafted into an intricate railroad map of Birmingham, plus salvaged pine lumber and that iconic Land Rover back bar that fans know and love. Get ready for an elevated dining experience that keeps all your Carrigan's favorites—yes, that legendary gourmet corndog is still there!—while introducing spectacular new dishes like the show-stopping Lamb Shank Roast that looks as amazing as it tastes.
With the same incredible team, an even more impressive bourbon and whiskey selection, and a sleek industrial vibe in a historic 1905 building, this is the downtown destination everyone's talking about. Whether you're grabbing post-work cocktails, celebrating with friends, or exploring Birmingham's exciting new alley bar culture, Carrigan's new location is the place to be right now! (more)

✡️ Alabama Holocaust Education Center

The Alabama Holocaust Education Center, located at 2100 Highland Avenue South in Birmingham's Temple Emanu-El, operates an 8,300-square-foot facility featuring immersive virtual reality experiences, interactive exhibits showcasing Alabama Holocaust survivors' stories, and authentic artifacts that bring history to life.
Founded in 2002 and led by Executive Director Lisa Bachman, the nonprofit has trained over 1,500 teachers and reached more than 100,000 students across 40 counties statewide through comprehensive teaching trainings, including their first-ever Teacher Conference held this past June and a brand new educator toolkit launching soon. The center is open for tours that can be booked directly through their website at ahecinfo.org, offering visitors powerful firsthand accounts and educational experiences designed to foster understanding and combat prejudice.
I had the honor of getting a tour recently, and was blown away by the entire exhibit, and especially the VR experience! It’s about as close as we can get to experiencing these events through the eyes of the victims.
Through community lectures, film screenings, commemorative events like their annual Kristallnacht lecture, and professional development programs, the center provides diverse opportunities for meaningful engagement with Holocaust history and its contemporary lessons. The organization's mission is to create a more just and compassionate world that recognizes the dignity and humanity of every individual by ensuring the Holocaust's stories of suffering, struggle, and survival are never forgotten.
